SMALL BEGINNINGS – GREAT RESULTS

It started in 1998, when Shirley Williams founded Shirley Williams Communications (SWC).

“I had gained valuable experience in marketing and communications at big-name companies such as Unilever, Renfreight Forwarding, and JSE-listed industrial group T&N Holdings,” says Shirley.

Then she decided it was time.

“I made the big leap – and went independent.”

SWC opened its doors as an independent, cross-industry, boutique communications agency. “Since then,” she explains, “we’ve remained passionate about building brands. We love the process of creative collaboration. We love partnering with like-minded brand professionals. That’s so exciting.”

Over the years, Shirley and her team have gained priceless experience. “Initially, our work was in traditional media,” she says, “and more recently in social media and digital platforms.”

“All this experience means we can offer a range of services,” she continues. “From public relations, marketing, advertising, media relations, and social media, to reputation management, and media liaison. We tackle it all,” she says. “Whatever the media or the ask, SWC we can take it on.”

AWARD-WINNING PR

SWC has a couple of feathers in its cap. Is there one that stands out?

“We won a prestigious gold PRISM Award (in 2013) for work done on the Willowton Group’s sponsorship of the Proteas Test Cricket,” says Shirley. “That was one of our really proud moments.”

And that’s no small feat. The PRISMS are regarded as one of the top accolades in the PR and communications arena, a benchmark when it comes to professionalism, excellence and creativity.
